Dissertation / Thesis Help Services

Service overview

What you get with Dissertation / Thesis Help Services

A dissertation or thesis is built on its structure long before its prose, and that is where most students stall. AMDEX Scholar Labs supports exactly those stages: narrowing a topic into an answerable question, building a literature review that argues rather than lists, justifying a design layer by layer, running and reporting the analysis, absorbing supervisor feedback, and defending the result. Support here means method explained, parallel examples worked on a different dataset or corpus, coaching on the draft you have written, proofreading, and clearly-labelled reference documents to study. We work across Master's dissertations, doctoral monographs, three-paper theses and German kumulative Dissertationen, and with the conventions students meet in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland, Germany and the UAE. Bring a stalled Chapter 2, a page of tracked comments you cannot decode, a dataset you cannot interpret, or a viva date.
  • Guidance built around your own brief and your marking rubric
  • Matched to a specialist who works in your subject area
  • Referencing explained and checked in your institution’s style — APA, MLA, Harvard, Chicago and more
  • Feedback on your drafts while there is still time to act on it
  • Worked examples supplied as labelled models to study and cite, never to submit
  • Human expertise — nothing here is generated by AI

What do you need assistance with?

How do I turn a broad topic into a researchable question?

Narrow it until scope, data access and your submission window fit together. A structured frame does most of the work: PICO (population, intervention, comparison, outcome) for comparative quantitative studies, SPIDER (sample, phenomenon of interest, design, evaluation, research type) for qualitative ones, and the FINER test — feasible, interesting, novel, ethical, relevant — as a final filter. Then state the gap in one sentence naming what is known, what is not, and why the difference matters. In a session we pressure-test that sentence against the literature that actually exists, check whether your sample is reachable and ethically approvable, and map aims and objectives onto chapters so the structure follows from the question rather than being imposed on it afterwards.
  • PICO or PICOS where an intervention and a comparison exist
  • SPIDER where the study is qualitative or mixed-methods
  • FINER applied last, as a feasibility filter rather than a formality
  • A one-sentence gap statement, tested against three to five recent sources
  • Aims and objectives mapped one-to-one onto chapters
  • Still at proposal stage? Research proposal support covers the same ground in your department's format

What should a literature review do that a summary does not?

Argue. A summary reports what each source said; a review groups sources into positions, shows where they conflict, and lands on the gap your question fills. Build it from a synthesis matrix — sources down the rows, themes across the columns — so themes, not authors, become your subheadings. If your review is systematic, PRISMA 2020 is the reporting standard: a 27-item checklist across seven sections, plus a flow diagram in three stages — identification, screening and included — recording records identified, screened, excluded with reasons, and included. A scoping review reports against the PRISMA-ScR extension instead, a 22-item checklist that renames data collection as data charting, makes critical appraisal optional rather than required, and omits the certainty-of-evidence items. Narrative reviews still need documented search strings, named databases, stated inclusion and exclusion criteria, and appraisal.
  • Boolean strings with truncation and controlled vocabulary (MeSH, database thesaurus terms), recorded per database
  • Searches run and logged across Scopus, Web of Science, PsycINFO, ERIC, JSTOR or the discipline equivalent
  • Screening logged at title/abstract and full-text stages, with exclusion reasons kept
  • Quality appraisal using CASP, JBI or the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool
  • Every paragraph ending on a claim of yours, not on a citation

How do I justify a methodology rather than just describe one?

Justify by showing that each choice constrains the next. Saunders, Lewis and Thornhill's research onion — current in the 9th edition of Research Methods for Business Students, published 2023 — makes the chain visible: philosophy, then approach, methodological choice, strategy, time horizon, and finally data collection and analysis procedures. Its five philosophies are positivism, critical realism, interpretivism, postmodernism and pragmatism, and committing to one commits you to particular claims about what counts as evidence. Ethics belongs in the same chapter: an IRB in the United States, a Research Ethics Committee in the UK and Ireland, a Human Research Ethics Committee in Australia working to the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research 2023, in force since 1 January 2024.
  • Sampling strategy, frame and size, each with a stated reason
  • Instrument provenance — adapted scales cited to source, pilot results reported
  • Validity and reliability for quantitative designs; credibility, transferability, dependability and confirmability (Lincoln and Guba) for qualitative ones
  • Participant information sheets and consent forms drafted by you, then read line by line against your committee's template

How do I analyse my data without the chapter falling apart?

Choose one analytic approach and apply it visibly. For qualitative data, Braun and Clarke's six phases of reflexive thematic analysis — familiarisation, coding, generating initial themes, reviewing themes, defining and naming, writing up — remain the standard citation, and their 2019 restatement is explicit that themes are developed by the researcher rather than 'emerging' from the data on their own. The Gioia method gives a different audit trail: first-order informant concepts, second-order themes and aggregate dimensions, drawn as a data structure diagram. Quantitative chapters need assumption checks stated before results, and effect sizes with confidence intervals reported alongside p-values.
  • Normality, homoscedasticity and multicollinearity (VIF) checked and reported, not assumed
  • Coding in NVivo, ATLAS.ti or MAXQDA, with a codebook an examiner could inspect
  • Output read and interpreted together — SPSS support covers the software side
  • Reporting checked against EQUATOR guidance: COREQ's 32 items for interviews and focus groups, STROBE's 22 items for observational designs
  • Findings kept separate from discussion, so interpretation does not leak into results

What do I do with supervisor feedback I don't understand?

Convert every comment into a row in a response table: the comment, what it implies about the argument, what you changed, and where the change now sits. That separates surface corrections from structural ones. A note like 'this doesn't connect' is rarely about the sentence beside it — it usually means the chapter's job within the overall argument has stopped being visible. We read the comments with you, translate the academic shorthand, and work on the draft you wrote: tightening the red thread from research question through methods to findings, and checking that each chapter opens by stating its purpose and closes by handing over to the next.
  • A response-to-feedback table you can send back to your supervisor
  • Chapter-level structural read before any line editing
  • Final language pass — tense consistency, hedging, table and figure numbering, abbreviations list, front matter: see editing and proofreading
  • Referencing checked for consistency across a long document, with the main styles compared in our referencing guide

What happens in a viva or defence, and how do I prepare?

It varies by country. A UK or Irish viva voce is normally a closed oral examination with an internal and an external examiner, frequently with no presentation at all; recognised outcomes run from pass with no corrections, through minor corrections, major corrections and resubmission with re-examination, to the award of a lower degree such as MPhil. German faculties set the format in the Promotionsordnung: a Disputation opens with a presentation of roughly 20 to 30 minutes before questioning, while a Rigorosum is questions only and may extend to the wider subject; grades are summa cum laude, magna cum laude, cum laude and rite. US and Canadian defences are usually held before a committee and are often public.
  • Mock viva on your own thesis, with questions drawn from your actual methods chapter
  • Defensible answers on sampling, exclusions, limitations and what you would do differently
  • A three-minute and a twenty-minute account of your contribution
  • A corrections plan built directly from the examiners' report

Dissertation / Thesis Help Services: common questions

No. This is a support service. We explain method, work parallel examples on a different dataset, topic or corpus, coach the draft you have written, and proofread. A model methodology chapter or a worked synthesis matrix is labelled as a reference document and built on a different topic from yours, so it can be studied but not submitted. Your research question, your data, your argument and your words stay yours from proposal to viva.

Yes. A single stuck chapter is a common starting point — a literature review that lists instead of argues, a methodology that describes without justifying, or a findings section that has drifted into discussion. Support scales from a single section to a chapter-by-chapter sequence across a full draft, and it can pause between supervisor meetings and restart when comments come back.

We can go through it with you. Ethics forms tend to fail on predictable points: vague data storage and retention statements, consent that does not cover secondary use, no route to withdraw after anonymisation, and recruitment that creates pressure on participants. You draft the participant information sheet and consent form; we read them against your own committee's template — IRB, REC or HREC — and explain what each section is asking you to demonstrate.

No. Corrections are well-defined work, because the examiners' report states what must change. We assist you in reading that report as a list of actionable items, separate the ones needing new analysis from the ones needing clearer writing, sequence them sensibly, and prepare the covering document that maps each correction to the page where you have addressed it.

Whichever your department mandates — APA 7th edition, Chicago 18th edition, MLA 9th edition, Vancouver, one of the many Harvard variants, or OSCOLA for UK law. Long theses drift: a style applied carefully in Chapter 1 rarely survives to Chapter 6 intact. We check citation-to-reference agreement, formatting consistency, and the details examiners notice, such as page ranges, DOIs and secondary citations.
