How Essay Support Works

Service overview

What you get with How Essay Support Works

AMDEX Scholar Labs scopes essay support the way a marker reads an essay: against the assessment brief, the rubric and the module learning outcomes, in that order. Scoping starts when you send the task sheet itself rather than a description of it — the exact wording of the question, the criteria bands, the word count and what counts towards it, the referencing style and its edition, and the portal the work goes through. What comes back first is a scoping note restating the task in different words, so a misreading surfaces before anything is built on it. After that the work runs in named stages: a structural outline, a worked example on an adjacent question, comments on the draft you wrote, then a language and reference pass. Every reference document carries a header stating what it is and what it is not. The essay that reaches the marker is the one you write.
  • Guidance built around your own brief and your marking rubric
  • Matched to a specialist who works in your subject area
  • Referencing explained and checked in your institution’s style — APA, MLA, Harvard, Chicago and more
  • Feedback on your drafts while there is still time to act on it
  • Worked examples supplied as labelled models to study and cite, never to submit
  • Human expertise — nothing here is generated by AI

What do you need assistance with?

What does a brief need to include before anything can be scoped?

The assessment brief as your department issued it, rather than a retyped summary. Scoping turns on the exact verb in the question — evaluate, compare, critically discuss — because that verb sets the shape the argument has to take, and paraphrase loses it. Around that sit the rubric, the word count and what counts towards it, the referencing style with its edition, the submission portal, and the learning outcomes the criteria map to. If your handbook names only a family, such as Harvard, check referencing styles compared and send the library guide your department actually links to.
  • The assessment brief or task sheet as issued, not retyped or summarised
  • The marking rubric or grading criteria, including the band descriptors
  • Word count, and whether footnotes, tables and the reference list count towards it
  • Referencing style and edition: APA 7th (2020), MLA 9th (2021), Chicago 18th (2024), Cite Them Right Harvard 13th (2025), or a departmental variant
  • Submission portal — Turnitin through Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle or an institutional equivalent
  • Module learning outcomes, plus the reading list or lecture slides the question sits on
  • Written feedback on any earlier essay in the same module

What do you receive at each stage?

One document per stage — scoping note, outline, parallel example, comment file — each headed with what it is and what it is not. The sequence is fixed, though you can stop anywhere in it: scoping precedes outlining, outlining precedes any example, and nothing is commented on until there is a draft of yours to comment on. A worked example is always built on an adjacent question rather than the one you have been set, so the method is visible while the content stays unusable for submission. Language work comes last, because tightening sentences in a paragraph that is about to be cut wastes the pass.
  • Scoping note — the question restated in different words, mapped to the criteria it answers
  • Structural outline — section headings, the claim each section carries, an indicative word split
  • Worked parallel example — the same method applied to an adjacent question, labelled as a reference document
  • Draft feedback — margin comments and tracked changes inside the file you wrote
  • Language and reference pass — sentence-level edits, plus every entry checked against the named edition

Do you write the essay that gets marked?

No. Drafting the assessed text is yours, and the structure of the service follows the law in several of the countries served. In England, the Skills and Post-16 Education Act 2022 created a criminal offence of providing or arranging, for payment, a service that completes all or part of a student's assignment, and a second offence of advertising one. Ireland's Qualifications and Quality Assurance (Education and Training) (Amendment) Act 2019 gives QQI power to prosecute the same conduct. In Australia, section 114A of the TEQSA Act 2011, inserted in 2020, carries penalties of up to 500 penalty units or two years' imprisonment. Support is scoped as method, examples and feedback for that reason.

How does feedback on a draft you wrote actually arrive?

As tracked changes and margin comments inside your own file, sorted into three layers so you can act on them in order. Layer one is argument and structure: whether the thesis survives to the conclusion, whether each section earns its place, where a counter-argument is missing. Layer two is evidence and referencing: claims without a citation, citations missing a locator where the style requires one, sources cited but absent from the list. Layer three is register and grammar. Layers one and two are coaching — you rewrite them. Layer three overlaps with essay editing and proofreading, which is scoped separately once the argument is settled.

How do you raise a revision, and what falls outside one?

Quote the passage, name the rubric criterion it relates to, and say what the comment missed. That is enough to reopen a stage. A revision addresses the brief as it was scoped: a misread criterion, an outline section that does not follow from the one before it, a reference formatted against the wrong edition, feedback that stopped at sentence level when the structure was the problem. Outside that sit changes to the brief itself — a new question, a different word count, a switch from Harvard to APA, a second module. Those are scoped afresh rather than argued over, because the earlier work was answering a different task.

What happens with Turnitin and the AI writing indicator?

Your work goes through your institution's portal as normal. Whether you see the Similarity Report depends on how your instructor configured the assignment; the AI writing indicator is visible to instructors only. It sits in the side panel of the Similarity Report, highlighting likely AI-generated passages in cyan, and in purple the subset of those the model also reads as run through an AI paraphrasing tool. Turnitin states the percentage can misidentify text and that it does not itself determine misconduct. Practically, this is why reference documents are labelled and built on adjacent questions: the prose you submit should be prose you drafted, from an outline you can explain, citing sources you have opened. A model essay example is for reading, then closing.

How Essay Support Works: common questions

Scoping can proceed from the assessment brief, the module learning outcomes and the handbook, with the rubric folded in when it appears. Learning outcomes are often the steadier document, since criteria are usually written against them. Where nothing exists beyond a question on a lecture slide, the scoping note becomes a set of stated assumptions for you to check with your tutor before the outline is built.

Harvard is a family rather than a single standard, and departments customise it. The version most UK and Irish libraries point to is Cite Them Right, currently in its 13th edition (2025), which dropped place of publication from book references — the 12th edition (2022) still required it, so check which edition your department is running. Send the library guide your department links to, not a generator's output. Where the two disagree, the departmental guide is what the marker applies.

Yes, at the scoping and outline stages, which exist for exactly that point. What cannot happen is skipping ahead to comments on prose that does not exist. If the blank page rather than the argument is the obstacle, essay writing coaching is the closer fit — it works through planning, source triage and paragraph construction using material you have gathered.

Say so as soon as you hear. The scoping note is rewritten first, because the restated question is what the section claims were built to answer. A changed question usually invalidates the outline too, because section claims are built to answer specific wording. Work already done is not wasted where the reading overlaps, but it is re-mapped against the new question rather than carried across whole.
